Water phalaenopsis orchid every 7-10 days in summer and every 10-14 days in winter. The soil is a better guide than the calendar: Water when the roots turn silvery-white; green roots still hold moisture.
Orchid roots are a built-in moisture meter: silvery means dry, green means still wet. Never leave the pot standing in water โ that is what kills them. After the flowers fall, cutting the spike just above a node often prompts a second bloom.
Every two years after flowering, into orchid bark โ ordinary potting soil will rot the roots.
