Water snake plant every 2-3 weeks in summer and once a month in winter. The soil is a better guide than the calendar: Only when the soil is dry all the way through. If in doubt, wait another week.
A snake plant survives being forgotten; it does not survive being loved. Overwatering is behind almost every dead one. Once the leaves go soft and the base browns, the roots have already rotted โ stop watering and replace the soil rather than adding more.
Every three or four years is plenty โ it grows happily pot-bound.

Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Soft leaves, brown base | Root rot from overwatering | Cut away the rot and repot into dry, gritty soil. |
| Wrinkled, thin leaves | Underwatering | Give one thorough soak, then let it dry fully again. |
| Variegation fading | Too little light | Move it somewhere brighter. |
